In the Mexican Waters

Our final destination on the cruise was a stop in Cozumel. But, Cozumel was only the port - the bulk of our time was on the mainland in Cancun. Our excursion this time took us on a ferry, then on a short bus ride to Xcarat!, a zoo/park/cultural center/beach. The first place we went to in the park was the underground river. It was like a "lazy river" at a water park, but one that went through caves. And instead of inner tubes, we wore life jackets. And instead of fresh water, it was a fresh/salt mixture. But other than that, it was just like a lazy river. Ethan took a little coaxing, but jumped into the water for the ride! As you can see form the sign, the total ride was just over 1800 ft long. The water was about chest deep for most of the time, and only in a few places it got where we HAD to float/swim. Next on the to-do list, was to find a beach. On the way, we saw this sign with distances to all kinds of different places. But, oh, the beaches were beautiful! It was great to sit there and enjoy the sun and the warmth. Jill and Kinley loved it!

As for the wildlife, they had sporatic little habitats for animals as we walked through. Closer to the water, we saw this habitat for sea turtles. Ethan saw it and excitedly shouted, "HONU!!" (Hawaiian for "sea turtle"). And now, he knows the spanish word, "tortuga".

Look how facinated Kinley was in the sand. She just kept watching the water coming up and getting her feet wet.

And that was our final port on the Funship vacation. It was a blast! Xcarat was pretty cool too - there was SO much to see. Our guide said that you could spend two full days at the park and barely see everything. I guess we need to go back!
