On Saturday Ethan had his very first tee-ball game! We were really curious how it was going to go. We've had a couple of practices, but an actual game required more time for kids to stand still. Overall, it was a great success! The Orioles looked great in their uniforms, ready to play.
Where we play, there isn't a dugout or a bench for the player to sit on when not on the field. So some of the parents had the brilliant idea of getting 5-gallon buckets to sit on for the sidelines.
Ethan was up to bat early on in the line-up. He was a natural - he got up to the tee... reared back...
...and let 'er rip!! He made some great contact and got an easy single!
In the second inning, Ethan got to play first base. He was so excited! In these tee-ball games, the positions that see the most action are the pitcher, first base, and right field (to catch overthrown balls meant for first base). For just about every hit, the pitcher would grab it and then throw to first base. Remember - this is tee-ball, so not many plays get made. The ball (if the pitcher gets to it quick enough) is often overthrown or mis-thrown to first.
BUT, a big play was made when Ethan was playing first. Our pitcher (with a great arm) got to the ball and threw the ball to E on first. Ethan actually caught the ball and tagged the runner out!! It was awesome!
Again, it was a fun, exciting first game. The kids all had a blast - and so did the coaches! So with one game under our belt, we're ready for the next one. When we got home, Ethan didn't want to stop playing, so we spent more time outside getting some practice in.
