That's not fair - it's THE fair

Last weekend Jill and I went to pick up Ethan from his week with Nonnie and Poppy. While in Dallas we all went out to the State Fair of Texas.

Just like last year, we had our Fletcher's Corny Dogs and other in-no-way-healthy fried foods. This year's winning new taste was chicken fried bacon. Yes - chicken fried bacon. Had it not been for the long lines at that booth, I probably would have had some.

It was a beautiful day and we had a lot of ground to cover. I think the unofficial theme this year was animals and food (at least that's what we tended to focus on). Hey, it was fun and it kept Ethan entertained.

Here we are checking out the map and trying to figure out where to go first:

Over at the dairy building, we got to see Elsie the Cow and a new calf, Beauregard. That's an ice cream cone Ethan is munching on while Jill pets the calf. Animal? Check. Food? Check.

Then we walked over to look at the massive (also very smelly) pig and we happend to catch some people showing sheep. Ethan eventually worked up the bravery to pet one. Animal? Check.

Then we got our picture with Big Tex. He finally got some new clothes this year!

Then we went over to the children's animal area and Ethan got to see all kinds of animals: goats, yaks, camels, pigs, and kangarroos! Animals? Check, check, and check.

Ethan was really into the food too. Though he only ate some of his corn dog, he really loved his fresh french fries. Food? Double check.

And we wrapped up our day and our last few food tickets with a push pop! Food? Messy check.
