Puppy Lovin'

One of the more frequent questions we get (right along with "How much sleep are you getting?") is, "How is Maggie doing?"

For those that don't know, Maggie is our five year old puppy and, according to our vet, a mix of mainly Black Mouth Cur. But to answer the question, she has been adjusting very well.

There are two extreme reactions that dogs can have to a new baby in the family. One exteme is the "Lady and the Tramp" reaction where the dog feels so neglected that she runs away into the paws of a homeless dog and they eat pasta together. The other extreme is the "Peter Pan" reaction where the dog is so nurturing to the kids that she is almost like a nanny. Thank you, Walt Disney.
Maggie is right there between the two - she's not running away, but she isn't exactly helping around the house.

She is still her lazy self when no one else is here, but we can tell that her normal sleep patterns have been disturbed as a result of the late-night feedings.

She enjoys sniffing him and trying to figure him out - but if we are holding him and walking around, she steers clear.

One of our concerns with having a dog was how she would react to having a baby around the house. Well, we honestly can't tell much of a difference from before!
