Our fourth day on Maui, we went down to the south part of the island in Makena to first look at some of the old volcanic rocks on the coast. It was amazing how different this was from other parts of the island. For the most part, it was very dry (almost desert-like) and tons of volcanic rock. But it made a beautiful contrast with the water:
Along the coastline we found a really neat blowhole that spurted up water with the big waves. Ethan thought it was pretty cool!
Then after all of that, we went to the Big Beach in Makena to eat lunch and play in the sand. In the picture below, you can see Molokini Crater in the background. We didn't make it out there this trip - got to save some stuff for the next one!
Then after a little R&R in the afternoon, we went out to our luau. Before the party started, they had a brief hula lesson for volunteers up on the stage. Naturally, Ethan wanted to go and he drug Mommy, Morgan, and Steph to play too.
After the hula demonstration, they served a pretty darn good meal, and then the show was on! They had all kinds of Hawaiian dances and Ethan was pretty into it. And he also got pretty excited about the fire dancers. Check it out!
