Day 5 saw us heading away from the beach and into the greenery on Maui.
We started the day with a trip out to Iao Valley in the western mountains of the island. This place couldn't be more different than the volcanic desert that we saw the day before. Here is was cool, lush, and gorgeous! This is a state park that was mainly walking, so we started our trek in.
The Iao Needle - the main attraction at the park.
No little boy can resist the urge to play on guide bars!
As we walked further in, we went off the beaten path and found this really cool stream as it flowed over the rocks. We got closer so we could stick our feet in. This was a nice change from all of the salt water!
After the Iao Valley trip, Jill and I headed off on our own for some zip-lining action! We saw an ad for it in one of the brochures and it sounded like a lot of fun. We made our way over to the Piiholo Ranch Zipline and got suited up.
To get to the first tower, we crossed this impressive suspension bridge:
We did a total of four lines in all for the day. The first one was more or less a practice run so get us used to how the equipment works and the hand signals and stuff. That one was 480 feet long. The second was 1,065 feet long, the third was 690 feet, and the last one was 725 feet. And keep in mind, these lines go over some pretty impressive valleys!
Here's the receiving end of the second zipline.
The ziplining was something we wished kept on going! We had so much fun doing it. In fact, here's a video of Jill and I going on the third zipline:
